Operation Omerta

I read “How to Build Practice-Based Learning Activities with AI Four evidence-based methods for designing, building & deploying active learning activities with your favourite LLM” by Dr Philippa Hardman from Stephen Downes blog. This is really fantastic work and Stephen’s remark that it is only the tip of the iceberg is right! I learned a lot using Dr. Phil’s prompt: I used Claude and I learned some of its limitations, the limitations of WordPress and how to use an API in PHP. I had Claude add an assessment of the conversation afterwards and scoring. Just to keep it fun, I had the scenario changed to a conversation with a Mafioso (because short timer’s complex and my natural inclination as a jackanapes). Claude named the scenario “Operation Omerta” which I found amusing. I had Jacqui, my wife who is an English Teacher, test drive it and she found the conversation stressful. She kept wondering if she was going to get shot. She thought it had lots of potential for speech and business classes, but I think there is a LOT here. This would be great for patient interviews, for instance. Or some much needed deescalation training? I would recommend exploration of this for anyone who is working in instructional design. Getting it to work on whatever platform your personal digital infrastructure lives on will teach you a lot about the level of your own skills, the possibilities of generative AI, and just how creative these tools will allow you to be.
